Burundi's water and electric utility invites expressions of interest from consultants to supervise tendering and construction of the 31.5-MW Jiji and 16.5-MW Mulembwe hydroelectric projects and a related transmission line in Burundi's Bururi Province. Responses are due December 24.

Regie de Production et de Distribution d'Eau et d'Electricite (REGIDESO) recruited consultants in August to form a dam safety panel and a social and environmental assessment panel for the two proposed hydroelectric projects. In 2012, it recruited firms to perform environmental and social impact studies and took bids to conduct a drilling program for the projects.

REGIDESO now invites expressions of interest from consulting engineers to supervise development of Jiji, Mulembwe, a transmission line, substation, and distribution lines and connections. Work is to include review of studies and tender documents, bid evaluation, review of design studies and supply of equipment, oversight of construction, and monitoring of socio-environmental action plans. The work is to require 72 months.

Expressions of interest, labeled "Manifestation d'Interet pour la Selection d'un Bureau d'Ingenieur Conseil Charge de la Surveillance des Travaux de Construction des Centrales Hydroelectriques de Jiji et Mulembwe et de la Ligne d'Interconnexion Associee," are due in person, by mail, by fax, or by e-mail to the address below by 3 p.m. December 24.

For information, contact Monsieur le Directeur General de la REGIDESO, Projet de Developpement des Amenagements Hydroelectriques de Jiji et Mulembwe (PDAJIMU), Avenue des Travailleurs No. 8, BP 660, Bujumbura, Burundi; (257) 22-273246; Fax: (257) 22-273249; E-mail: banobeka@yahoo.fr, nkurico@yahoo.fr.
