Norwegian water resources and energy directorate Norges Vassdrags- og Energidirectorat (NVE) has awarded a contract to Verkis hf of Iceland to serve as owner's engineer for five Tanzanian hydroelectric projects.

NVE called for bids from consultants in January on behalf of the Tanzania Electricity Supply Co. (Tanesco).

Verkis is to assist Tanesco in ensuring that supply and installation of five hydropower plants under its emergency repair initiative is performed according to individual needs of each hydro plant and in accordance with technical and quality standards. Verkis is also to help ensure that quality and cost of supply are controlled. The work is to require 24 months, with the possibility of an extension.
