Vanuatu seeks consultant for renewable energy plan including hydropower

Vanuatu Map

The government of Vanuatu invites expressions of interest from consultants to help prepare a renewable energy investment plan, including hydropower, for the South Pacific island nation. Responses are due December 5.

The Asian Development Bank recruited consultants in June to perform feasibility studies of small hydro projects in Vanuatu, formerly known as the New Hebrides islands. ADB also has been advancing small hydro projects in Samoa and Papua New Guinea.

Vanuatu now has received funding from the World Bank toward the cost of the Vanuatu Energy Sector Development Project, which is to fund the current solicitation. The government seeks consultants to prepare a renewable energy investment plan for funding consideration by the Scaling-up Renewable Energy Program.

Phase 1 of the program is to assess potential and costs of renewable energy technologies including hydro, prioritize interventions, and facilitate discussions with stakeholders. Phase 2 is to develop a draft investment plan for prioritized renewable energy investments. The work is to require 6.5 months beginning in March 2014.

Expressions of interest are to be submitted in person, by mail, or by e-mail by 4:30 p.m. December 5. For information, contact Director Jesse Benjamin, Department of Energy, PMB 9067, Port Vila, Vanuatu; (678) 5333840; Fax: (678) 5992650; E-mail: jbenjamin@vanuatu.gov.vu.
