U.S. seeks spillway gates retrofit at California's New Hogan Dam

New Hogan Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids from small businesses to retrofit spillway gates at New Hogan Dam on the Calaveras River in central California. Bids are due Aug. 23.

The Corps' Sacramento District awarded a contract in 2011 to M.J. Hughes Construction Inc. to maintain and repair more than a dozen dams in the Sacramento District including New Hogan. A federally owned flood control and water conservation structure, New Hogan Dam also is the location of the 2.65-MW New Hogan hydroelectric project (No. 2903), which is licensed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

In a solicitation set aside for small businesses, the Corps seeks bids to retrofit three 36-foot by 38-foot tainter gates that act as spillway control at New Hogan Dam. Work includes strengthening and bracing gate struts. Should work be necessary when water elevation is above 674.5 feet, a temporary dam is to be placed in the approach channel to the tainter gate.

Valued at $5 million to $10 million, the work is to require 1,100 days.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W9123813R0031 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Bids are due by Aug. 23. For information, contact Anna Ricci C. Cayanan, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento, 1325 J St., Sacramento, CA 95814; (1) 916-557-5231; E-mail: anna.r.cayanan@usace.army.mil.
