Burundi's water and electric utility invites expressions of interest from consultants to form a dam safety panel and a social and environmental assessment panel for the proposed 32-MW Jiji and 17-MW Mulembwe hydroelectric projects and a related transmission line in Burundi's Bururi Province. Responses to two solicitations are due August 28.
Regie de Production et de Distribution d'Eau et d'Electricite (REGIDESO) recruited firms in December to perform environmental and social impact studies of the projects. It also took bids to conduct a drilling program for the hydro projects. The agency took bids in 2011 to rehabilitate the 18-MW Rwegura and 1.44-MW Nyemanga hydroelectric projects.
In the first of two solicitations, REGIDESO now invites expressions of interest by August 28 from consultants to serve as dam expert, geologist, and hydrologist on a panel to draft international best practices in dam safety. The panel is to ensure that the Jiji and Mulembwe projects comply with dam safety rules and practices. Expressions of interest, labeled "Manifestation d'Interet pour le Recrutement d'un Panel d'Experts pour la Securite des Barrages (Consultants Individuels)," are due to the address below by 10 a.m. August 28.
In a second solicitation, REGIDESO invites expressions of interest by August 28 from consultants to serve as environmental and social assessment experts to advise on all aspects of project environment, both upstream and downstream, and on resettlement of affected populations. Expressions of interest, labeled "Manifestation d'Interet pour le Recrutement d'un Panel d'Experts Environnemental et Social," are due to the address below by 10 a.m. August 28.
