U.S. seeks information for fish passage upgrade at 810-MW Lower Granite Dam

Lower Granite Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks information from experienced contractors about its proposal to upgrade the juvenile fish passage facility at 810-MW Lower Granite Dam on the Snake River in Washington. Responses are due Aug. 5.

The Corps awarded a contract to Haz-Tech Drilling Inc. in May for geotechnical survey services at Lower Granite. Several recent actions have occurred at Lower Granite involving fish passage facilities, including a call by the National Marine Fisheries Service for passive integrated transponder tags, a request for information by the Corps on firms able to install a PIT tag monitoring system, and a Corps request for information on firms able to install an additional spillway weir to improve salmon passage.

The Corps' Walla Walla District now seeks information from experienced contractors about its upcoming project to upgrade the Lower Granite Juvenile Fish Facility. The upgraded system is to provide additional water through enlarged 14-inch orifices. To accommodate the added flow, the Corps said concrete mining is required to enlarge the existing collection channel and the existing transportation channel.

A new section of transportation channel is to be mined through the dam to exit the downstream face of the dam. Additionally, a new transportation channel and associated systems are to be installed from the dam to the juvenile fish facility.

In a special notice, the Corps asked contractors: What would be the industry methods to accomplish the work; what production rates could be expected; and what would be the biggest concerns that the government might mitigate before issuing a solicitation.

The special notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF13RSN12 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Responses are due by e-mail to the address below by 4 p.m., Pacific time, Aug. 5. For information, contact Jani Long, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, 201 N. Third Ave., Walla Walla, WA 99362-1876; (1) 509-527-7209; Fax: (1) 509-527-7802; E-mail: jani.c.long@usace.army.mil.
