U.S. seeks firms for fish passage studies at 810-MW Lower Monumental Dam

Lower Monumental Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks information on firms capable of performing fish passage studies at 810-MW Lower Monumental Dam on the Snake River in Washington. Responses are due Aug. 9.

The Corps' Walla Walla District took bids in February to refurbish fishway pump parts at Lower Monumental. Normandeau Associates Inc. won a contract in 2012 to perform fish counting services at Lower Monumental and seven other federal hydropower projects along the Columbia and Snake rivers.

In a sources sought notice, the Corps now seeks information from firms able to perform fish-related biotechnology studies, specifically characterization of turbine passage environment at Lower Monumental Dam. The Corps said responses would help it determine the type of solicitation to be issued.

The Walla Walla District said it seeks to identify and potentially secures sources of high quality expertise in fish passage studies requiring electronics engineering and data collection. In 1997, the Corps formed the Turbine Survival Program with the National Marine Fisheries Service and Bonneville Power Administration. The program is to develop turbine operations for short-term improvements to fish passage, identify biological design criteria for new turbine designs, and investigate improvements in turbine designs or modifications that might provide long-term fish passage benefits.

A sources sought notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF13RSS32 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Responses are due by 4 p.m., Pacific time, Aug. 9. For information, contact Mary Van Sickle, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, 201 N. 3rd Ave., Walla Walla, WA 99362-1876; (1) 509-527-7204; Fax: (1) 509-527-7802; E-mail: mary.m.vansickle@usace.army.mil.
