Paraguay extends electro-mechanical bidding for 206-MW Yguazu hydroelectric project

Yguazu Hydropower Project

Paraguay utility Administracion Nacional de Electricidad (ANDE) has extended the deadline for bids to supply electro-mechanical equipment for the 206-MW Yguazu hydroelectric project in Paraguay. Bids now are due August 8.

ANDE previously called for bids by June 18 to supply generating equipment for Yguazu, on the Iguacu River on Paraguay's border with Argentina and Brazil. ANDE voided 2011 tendering to supply generating equipment and a transmission line for Yguazu, finding bidders failed to meet requirements or exceeded the estimated project cost.

The Yguazu hydro project is to feature two 103-MW turbine-generators and a 45-kilometer, 220-kilovolt transmission line at Yguazu Dam, spelled Iguazu and Iguacu in the neighboring countries. The dam is a storage facility built in 1977 to provide water to the reservoir of the 210-MW Acaray project.

ANDE now seeks bids for Lot 3, electro-mechanical equipment. Solicitation documents may be obtained for 4 million guaranis (US$988) via Paraguay's procurement Internet site under Bids now are due by 9 a.m. August 8.
