BKW AG purchases five Italian small hydropower projects

Lombardy

Swiss utility BKW AG has purchased five small hydropower projects from Italian energy supplier A2A, further strengthening its commitment to hydroelectricity, BKW said.

The projects have a cumulative installed capacity of about 10 MW and are located in Italy's northern Lombardy province.

BKW said the acquisition is valued at US$49.2 million, though A2A might gain an addition $2 million depending on certain conditions included in the purchase agreement.

A2A said the divestment is part of its plan to "optimize its industrial portfolio and reduce debt."

BKW has operated eight run-of-river projects in the Lombardy that have a combined output capacity of 42 MW, while another five in Aosta Valley have a cumulative capacity of 8 MW.
