Fish habitat study sought for lamprey above Oregon's 11-MW Soda Springs Dam

Soda Springs Dam

The U.S. Forest Service seeks bids to perform a fish habitat study for lamprey upstream of 11-MW Soda Springs Dam on Oregon's North Umpqua River. Bids are due July 1.

Soda Springs Dam is one of eight developments in the 194-MW North Umpqua hydroelectric project (No. 1927) operated by PacifiCorp. During relicensing of North Umpqua, the Forest Service had pushed for removal of Soda Springs Dam. Instead, as a condition of relicensing in 2003, PacifiCorp was required to provide fish passage for adult salmon and lamprey at Soda Springs.

Other developments of the North Umpqua project are 31.99-MW Lemolo 1, 38.55-MW Lemolo 2, 15-MW Clearwater 1, 26-MW Clearwater 2, 42.5-MW Toketee, 11-MW Fish Creek, and 18-MW Slide Creek.

In a solicitation set aside for small business, the Forest Service now seeks bids to implement quantitative baseline spawning and rearing habitat surveys, mapping, and report documentation for Pacific lamprey and Western Brook lamprey upstream of Soda Springs Dam in the Diamond Lake Ranger District of Umpqua National Forest. Work is to include developing habitat suitability criteria and habitat survey protocol, collecting habitat data, and analyzing and mapping that data for documentation in a report.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. AG04N7S130030 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Bids are due by mail or fax by 4 p.m., Pacific time, July 1. For information, contact Linda C. Harmon, Contract Specialist, U.S. Forest Service, Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, 3040 Biddle Road, Medford, OR 97504-4119; (1) 541-618-2021; Fax: (1) 541-618-2148; E-mail: lharmon@fs.fed.us.
