Costa Rica's electric utility has issued solicitations for a hydro consultant panel and for electro-mechanical equipment for the 305.5-MW Reventazon hydroelectric project in the Siquirres area of Costa Rica's Limon Province. Responses are due June 26 and July 31.

The US$1.1 billion project is being developed by Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) and will include a 130-meter-tall dam, a 6.9-square-kilometer reservoir, and a 4.2 km diversion between the dam and powerhouse on the Reventazon River. The Inter-American Development Bank approved US$200 million in financing for Reventazon in October 2012 and a US$670 million loan for the project in May.

ICE took bids in April for step-up transformers for Reventazon. It recruited consultants in 2012 to provide construction supervision.

In the first of two solicitations, ICE now seeks bids by June 26 from consultants seeking three experts in: design of concrete-faced rockfill dams; geotechnical aspects of hydropower projects; and construction of hydropower projects. The expert panel would track and provide recommendations for the construction of the Reventazon project on behalf of ICE. Work would be performed from second quarter 2013 to October 2016.

In the second solicitation, ICE seeks bids by July 31 for electro-mechanical equipment for the powerhouse of Reventazon's compensation plant. With a budget of US$10 million, ICE seeks turbines, generators, their auxiliaries, a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, bridge crane, and transformer.
