Energy developer RusHydro and manufacturer Alstom have signed two agreements extending their joint venture, AlstomRusHydroEnergy LLC, for the reconstruction and upgrade of the Kubansky cascade hydroelectric project in southern Russia.

The first agreement, signed by RusHydro's Evgeniy Dod and Alstom Group's Patrick Kron during the Petersburg International Economic Forum, extends the scope of the joint venture to services including the inspection of power plants, supply of spare parts and components, retooling and the repair and upgrade of equipment. Both parties also intend to extend their cooperation to include innovation and research and development activities.

RusHydro also said it will "entrust the manufacture of equipment for its power plants to AlstomRusHydroEnergy LLC", while "Alstom intends to integrate AlstomRusHydroEnergy into its worldwide production system" via the joint venture's plant in Oufa, Russia.

The second agreement details key principals and timelines of a contract signed in 2011 for the modernization of the 460-MW Kubansky Cascade hydropower project. Kubansky includes eight conventional hydroelectric plants and a pumped-storage component. Per the agreement, Alstom will manufacture and deliver equipment, and supervise installation, tests and commissioning, in addition to automation controls at the Nevinnomyssk control center.
