An enterprise license agreement signed by Electricite de France (EDF) and software developer Ventyx will allow for the deployment of Ventyx's enterprise asset management (EAM) program across at hydropower projects across France.

The agreement will see the Ventyx EAM introduced at each of EDF's 435 hydroelectric plants, the U.S.-based company said, "providing a single software solution for all its tens of thousands of maintenance workers to help maximize the safety, reliability and efficient generation of power".

Ventyx said its software allows users to "bridge the gap between information technologies and operational technologies", which in turn allows for "faster, better-informed decisions in both daily operations and long-term planning strategies".

The EAM program has already been introduced to some of EDF's nuclear, hydro and fossil-fired generating plants, but the utility said it saw complete integration as a necessary step.

"With 28 million customers in France relying on our electricity to power their homes, offices and factories, asset management is absolutely a mission-critical part of our business," said EDF executive Jean-Marc Herodin.

Ventyx was acquired by power and automation company ABB in 2010.
