U.S. seeks boring, excavation for geologic survey near Prado Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids for test borehole drilling and test pit excavation for a geologic survey near Prado Dam on California's Santa Ana River. Bids are due April 24.

Prado Dam was built in 1941 as a flood risk reduction structure in Riverside County. A 2009 analysis found the dam to be significantly inadequate due to the potential for embankment seepage and piping and overtopping in the vicinity of the spillway. The Corps since has taken interim risk reduction measures.

The Corps' Los Angeles District seeks bids to drill four soil borings to a depth of 100 feet and about 10 soil borings to between 30 and 50 feet. The contractor also is to excavate about 15 test pits to a depth of 12 feet with a backhoe or excavator to enable a geologist to log the test pits and collect bulk soil samples for laboratory testing.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering solicitation No. W912PL13T0015 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Bids are due April 24. For information, contact Matthews P. Turner, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District, P.O. Box 532711, Los Angeles, CA 90053-2325; (1) 213-452-3237; Fax: (1) 213-452-4184; E-mail: matthews.p.turner@usace.army.mil.
