Spain water company seeks micro-hydro turbines for canal sites

Spanish water system operator Canal de Isabel II Gestion S.A. seeks bids to supply, operate, and maintain micro-hydro turbines at four installations on the Canal de Isabel in Spain. Site visits were planned April 29 and 30 with bids due May 31.

Canal de Isabel II Gestion supplies drinking water and waste water treatment in the Madrid area. It seeks micro-hydro turbines for installation on the reservoirs and water treatment stations of its canal system. A report by the European Small Hydropower Association finds annual small hydropower generation potential in Spain to be 1,569 gigawatt-hours by 2020.

The water system operator seeks micro-hydro turbines of at least 50 kW but less than 250 kW for installation at four sites, the La Jarosa and Navacerrada drinking water treatment stations, the Majadahonda water storage facility, and Riosequillo Reservoir. The work is to require 38 months with a budget of 2.28 million euros (US$2.98 million).
