Malawi has issued additional solicitations, seeking consultants to perform environmental studies of natural habitats in the Shire River Basin as well as a consulting engineer/construction supervisor for its national electric utility. Responses are due April 23 and May 27.
The Ministry of Water Development and Irrigation and the U.S.-backed Millennium Challenge Account-Malawi previously issued solicitations for a series of river control and management tasks, mainly under Malawi's Shire River Basin Management Program.
The World Bank said the Shire is a critical river basin in Malawi from the perspective of hydropower, irrigation, water supply, catchment management, environmental and social services, flood management, and navigation. The major hydroelectric facilities in Malawi are on the Shire River: 24-MW Nkula Falls A, 100-MW Nkula Falls B, 40-MW Tedzani 1 & 2, 52.7-MW Tedzani 3, and 64.8-MW Kapichira Falls.
The Ministry of Water Development and Irrigation now invites expressions of interest by April 23 to establish a comprehensive inventory of the status of natural ecosystems, natural habitats, and biodiversity in the Shire River Basin to inform resource planning and management.
Information on the Shire River Basin Program may be obtained from the World Bank's Internet site under www.worldbank.org/projects/P117617/malawi-shire-river-basin-management-project?lang=en.
Expressions of interest and qualifications are due April 23 to Ministry of Water Development and Irrigation, Attn: Chairman of the Internal Procurement Committee, Shire River Basin Management Program (Phase I) Project, ADL House - SRBMP Project Office, 2nd Floor, P.O.
