Austria utility seeks steel for weir, headrace of 89-MW Inn hydro plant construction

Inn Hydro Plant

Austria utility Verbund seeks bids to supply hydraulic steel for the weir and headrace of the 89-MW Inn hydro plant construction on the Inn River on the border of Austria and Switzerland. Bid documents may be obtained until May 3 with bids due May 8.

Verbund formed a subsidiary in 2009 to operate 13 hydroelectric projects on the Inn River, totaling 312 MW, that it acquired from German utility E.ON. The Austrian utility launched an initiative in 2012 to emphasize its hydropower assets through construction and upgrades.

Verbund is developing the new project, Gemeinschaftskraftwerk Inn (joint venture power plant Inn), with Engadiner Kraftwerke AG and Tiroler Wasserkraft AG (TIWAG), a hydropower utility owned by the Austrian province of Tyrol.

Costing 410 million euros (US$537 million), the Inn project is to feature a 15-meter-tall diversion weir and a 23-kilometer tunnel to a powerhouse containing two Francis turbines.

Verbund Maschinentechnik seeks bids for planning, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and documentation of steel weir and headrace armor for the Inn project.

Bid documents may be obtained until 1 p.m. May 3 from Verbund's Internet supplier portal, www.verbund.com/lieferantenportal.

Bids are due by 1 p.m. May 8. For information, contact Julia Worner, Verbund Maschinentechnik, Am Hof 6a, 1010 Vienna, Austria; (43) 5031353634; Fax: (43) 50313153634; E-mail: julia.woerner@verbund.com; Internet: www.verbund.com, www.verbund.com/lieferantenportal.
