Albania seeks rehabilitation, modernization of 14 dams

Albania's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Protection invites expressions of interest from consultants to supervise rehabilitation and modernization of 14 dams during 2013 and 2014. Responses are due January 17, 2013.

Albania has received 31 million euros (US$41 million) in financing from the World Bank for the Water Resources and Irrigation Project, which it plans to use for supervisory services for dam rehabilitation. In 2008, the bank also approved a US$35.3 million loan to Albanian Power Corp. (KESH) for dam safety under the Energy Community Southeast Europe APL Program.

The ministry now seeks expressions of interest from consultants to supervise rehabilitation and modernization of 14 dams, mostly in the Drin-Buna and Semani river basins. Dams include Murriz Thana, Kurjan, Strumi, Leminoti, Duhanas, Belesova, Tregtan 2, Tregtan 3, Vranisht 2, Koshnica 1, Staravecke, T'Pla, Zharrez, and Slanica.

Expressions of interest are due January 17 to the address below. For information, contact Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Protection, Skenderbeg Square No. 2, Attn.: Project Manager Andi Vila, Eralda Lameborshi, Tirana, Albania; Tel/Fax: (355) 4-223917; E-mail:,
