Liberia pre-qualifies equipment suppliers for 60- to 80-MW Mount Coffee

The government of Liberia invites applications for pre-qualification to supply turbine-generators and other equipment to rehabilitate the 64-MW Mount Coffee hydroelectric project in Liberia. Responses are due November 2.

The West African Power Pool named Stanley Consultants Inc. in 2011 to carry out engineering studies and prepare tender documents and named Poyry Energy Ltd. to prepare studies for an environmental and social impact assessment and a resettlement action plan for Mount Coffee.

The 64-MW Mount Coffee was destroyed during a period of war and civil unrest. A feasibility study recommended rebuilding the project to 66 MW with additional upstream storage capacity to ensure year-round power generation.

Liberia now invites applications for pre-qualification to design, supply, and install turbines, generators, exciters, step-up transformers, and ancillary equipment for a 60- to 80-MW project. The work is expected to be carried out from May 2013 to August 2016.
