Exciter deadline extended again by U.S. for 2,457.3-MW Chief Joseph

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers extended the deadline an additional time for bids to supply 11 replacement excitation systems for turbine-generators of the 2,457.3-MW Chief Joseph hydroelectric project near Bridgeport, Wash. Bids now are due Oct. 15.

The Corps' Seattle District previously called for bids by Oct. 9 and 2 and Sept. 6. It took bids in April to supply and install a work platform inside the Unit 11 penstock and to replace the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system at Chief Joseph, on the Columbia River.

The Seattle District now seeks bids to design, manufacture, test, and deliver main-unit exciter replacements for Units 17-27. Work includes removing existing static exciters, repairing the floor, and installing and testing the new exciters. The new systems are to include automatic voltage regulators, power system stabilizers, power potential transformers, and ancillary equipment.

The work is valued at $5 million to $10 million.
