U.S. boundary commission seeks penstock gate fix at 132-MW Amistad

The U.S. Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission seeks bids to repair a penstock bulkgate at 132-MW Amistad Dam at Del Rio, Texas. Bids are due Sept. 18.

The commission, which owns and operates hydroelectric projects along the U.S.-Mexico border, awarded a contract in March to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for emergency repairs to Amistad's Penstock No. 4, which was damaged and jammed allowing an uncontrollable flow of about 60 cms. Inspectors questioned safety of the dam in 2007 after inspections indicated sinkholes could affect stability.

IBWC currently seeks structural repairs to a penstock bulkgate. Work is to be completed in 120 days.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. IBM231006AB in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Bids are due by 2 p.m. Mountain time, September 18. For information, contact Isaac Portillo, International Boundary and Water Commission, 4171 N. Mesa, Suite C-100, El Paso, TX 79902; (1) 915-832-4709; E-mail: isaac.portillo@ibwc.gov.
