Niger seeks study of 125-MW Kandadji, electricity system

The government of Niger invites expressions of interest to develop a master plan for Niger's electricity system and exploitation of the proposed 125-MW Kandadji hydroelectric project on the Niger River. Responses are due October 9.

The government pre-qualified firms in December to supply hydro-mechanical equipment for Kandadji. The project includes construction of a dam for regulating the flow of the Niger River to provide water for irrigation, drinking water, sanitation, ecology, grazing, and fisheries. About 629 gigawatt-hours is to be generated annually as a by-product to make Kandadji as profitable as possible.

The government's high commission on Niger Valley management, Haut Commissariat a l'Amenagement de la Vallee du Niger, and the energy and petroleum ministry, Direction Generale de l'Energie au Ministere de l'Energie et du Petrole, invite expressions of interest to define investment priorities for Niger's entire electrical system and to study an appropriate structure for exploitation of the Kandadji project, including the possibility of a public-private partnership.

Expressions of interest are due to the first address below by 5 p.m. October 9. For information, contact:
