Eastern Nile agency seeks Baro-Akobo-Sobat study, including hydro

The Eastern Nile Technical Regional Office (ENTRO) invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform a multi-purpose water resources development study of the Baro-Akobo-Sobat sub-basin, including potential hydroelectric projects. Responses are due October 5.

The multi-nation ENTRO, representing Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan, and South Sudan, has applied for a 5.2 million euro (US$6.7 million) grant from the African Water Facility and the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD)-Infrastructure Preparation Facility for the Baro-Akobo-Sobat project. The host of the two fund facilities, African Development Bank, approved a US$3 million loan for the study in May.

ENTRO currently invites expressions of interest for the multi-purpose water resources development study of Baro-Akobo-Sobat. Components include an integrated water resources management and development plan; feasibility studies of priority projects in hydropower, irrigation, water supply, navigation, flood control, and watershed management; and identification of medium- to long-term infrastructure projects.

Expressions of interest in the multi-purpose water resources development study are due by 5 p.m. October 5 to the address below. Additionally, prospective bidders may obtain information from the address below on subsequent solicitations for a project coordinator and for organization of workshops.
