U.S. to take bids for fish counters at Columbia, Snake projects

WALLA WALLA, Wash., U.S. 4/10/12 (PennWell) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to take bids from small businesses to perform fish counting services at eight federal hydroelectric projects on the Columbia and Snake rivers. A solicitation is expected in April with bids to be due in May.

The Corps' Walla Walla District solicited information in 2011 on contractors capable of performing counting services for the Fish Program of the Corps' Walla Walla and Portland districts. The district also took proposals in 2011 for biostatistical services for the Northwestern Region's Anadromous Fish Evaluation Program.

The current work would include counting adult fish passing through fish ladders at the Corps' eight mainstem dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers: 1,076.6-MW Bonneville, 1,780-MW Dalles, 2,160-MW John Day, 980-MW McNary, 603-MW Ice Harbor, 810-MW Lower Monumental, 810-MW Little Goose, and 810-MW Lower Granite.

Fish counting is to produce technical information to help the Corps make engineering and operational decisions to provide safe, efficient fish passage through the migration corridor. Various groups and agencies also use fish counts for research in the basins.

A pre-solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W912EF12R0006 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

The Corps said a solicitation is expected to be issued about April 11, with bids to be due about May 11.
