Reunion Island seeks small hydro on three irrigation reservoirs

SAINT-DENIS, Reunion Island 4/19/12 (PennWell) -- The government of Reunion Island, a French overseas department off the east coast of Africa, seeks bids to build and operate three small hydro projects on the island's irrigation system. Bids are due May 14.

Electricite de France awarded a contract to Alstom Hydro in 2008 to supply a turbine-generator and other equipment to expand the 60-MW Riviere de l’Est hydroelectric project on Reunion Island.

In the current solicitation, the government of Departement de la Reunion seeks firms to develop the three small hydro plants on a build-operate-transfer basis. The developer would be compensated by electricity sales and would pay a royalty to the department during the contract period.

The department seeks installation of hydroelectric equipment on water supply lines upstream of pressure reducers at three reservoirs at Antenna 3, Antenna 6, and Antenna 8 of the Littoral Ouest irrigation project.

Tender documents may be obtained from the address below. Bids, in French, are due by 2 p.m. May 14. For information, contact M.C. Rousseau, Departement de la Reunion, Direction de l'eau, 1a rue Charles Gounod, 97488 Saint-Denis Cedex, France; (262) 262415652; Fax: (262) 262217319.
