Nile Lakes states seek project manager for 90-MW Rusumo Falls

KIGALI, Rwanda 4/10/12 (PennWell) -- Nile Equatorial Lakes states invite applications to serve as project manager for development of the 90-MW Rusumo Falls hydroelectric project on the Kagera River. Responses are due April 30.

The Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program (NELSAP) of the Nile Basin Initiative recruited consultants in 2011 to serve as owner's engineer for the project.

NELSAP states include Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Burundi, Rwanda, and Tanzania are preparing the Rusumo Falls project, which will be located on the border of Rwanda and Tanzania and will create a 386-square-kilometer reservoir extending into all three countries and transmission lines interconnecting the three countries.

NELSAP currently invites engineers with broad experience in hydropower development to serve as project manager, heading a management team to include a lead environmental and social specialist, an environment management officer, a social/resettlement officer, a communication officer, a financial officer, and secretarial and administrative staff.
