LEXINGTON, Ky. 4/9/12 (PennWell) -- The Association of State Dam Safety Officials has opened nominations for its 2012 Regional Awards of Merit, National Dam Rehabilitation Project of the Year and Terry L. Hampton Medal.
Nominations will be accepted through June 1, 2012, with winners announced by early August. Winners will be invited as honored guests to attend the Annual Awards Luncheon during Dam Safety '12, which runs Sept. 16-20 in Denver.
Additional recognition will be given in the ASDSO Annual Report, ASDSO E-News and
Journal of Dam Safety.
The organization says its Regional Awards of Merit is intended to "recognize the overall contributions of an individual or organization, not to recognize the merits of a dam project." Instead, ASDSO says the recipient should demonstrate recent, noteworthy efforts and accomplishments in the field of dam safety.

ASDSO's National Dam Rehabilitation Project of the Year is meant to recognize "unique remedial design that advances the state-of-the-art in the field of dam safety." Recognition will be given to the dam owner and designer; projects must be completed and in full operation by April 30, 2012, to be eligible.
