U.S. seeks firms to supply runners for 2,078-MW Hoover

BOULDER CITY, Nev., U.S. 2/9/12 (PennWell) -- The Bureau of Reclamation seeks information on firms that are able to supply four turbine runners for 2,078-MW Hoover Dam on the Colorado River in Arizona and Nevada. Responses are due Feb. 15

The agency awarded a $3.3 million contract in January to Voith Hydro to design, manufacture, and deliver a vertical Francis wide-head-range turbine runner for Hoover's Unit A8.

Reclamation now seeks information on firms able to design, manufacture, and deliver four horizontal-shaft impulse Pelton turbine runners. Based on responses, the agency is to determine whether to set aside the acquisition for small businesses, issue an unrestricted solicitation, or choose an alternative procurement strategy.

Work would include computational fluid dynamics, manufacture, and delivery of two runners with associated parts for Hoover's Arizona Unit A0 and two runners and parts for Hoover Nevada Unit N0. The Pelton units are to have 63-inch pitch diameter and are to include 16 buckets, single-piece, centrifugally cast, and machined by a numerically controlled five-axis or more mill.

A sources sought notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. 12002LC in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Responses are due Feb. 15. For information, contact Beth A. Murray, Contract Specialist, Bureau of Reclamation - LC - Lower Colorado Regional Office, P.O. Box 61470, Boulder City, NV 89006; (1) 702-293-8581; E-mail: bmurray@usbr.gov.
