Synex commissions 4.4-MW Barr Creek hydro plant

ZEBALLOS, British Columbia, Canada 2/20/12 (PennWell) -- Synex International Inc. has completed commissioning of the 4.4-MW Barr Creek hydroelectric plant, which is now delivering electricity to BC Hydro and Power Authority.

Construction of the project began in June 2010.

The plant is near Zeballos on Vancouver Island and is delievering power under a 40-year purchase agreement between Barr Creek Limited Partnership and BC Hydro.

Synex International's limited partners include Synex Energy Resources Ltd. -- a wholly-owned subsidiary of Synex International -- and the Ehattesaht Tribe. Synex holds 80% of the BCLP units, and Ehattesaht has the remainder.

The completion of the project increases Synex's overall hydroelectric capacity to 12 MW, and the company says it has applications for water licenses and land tenures at 70 more sites that are in various stages of development.
