Local council investigates micro-hydro projects in Scotland

INVERCLYDE, United Kingdom 2/27/12 (PennWell) -- The Inverclyde Council invites expressions of interest from firms to develop and operate micro-hydropower projects in Inverclyde, Scotland. Responses are due March 16.

The governing body of Inverclyde plans a "market awareness" meeting to enable the council and interested parties to explore possible models for development of micro-hydro projects including timeframes, possible barriers, and financial return to the council.

Inverclyde proposes to issue a solicitation for a partner to carry out feasibility studies, develop, and operate up to three micro-hydro sites estimated at 55 kW, 60 kW, and 70 kW. The partner would be expected to design and build water diversions, penstocks, powerhouses, tailraces, and related works. The council might consider site leases to the partner for operation of the projects for 25 years.

Those who want to attend the market awareness meeting are invited to submit expressions of interest by e-mail to the address below by noon March 16.
