India developer seeks consultants to expand hydropower expertise

RISHIKESH, India 1/9/12 (PennWell) -- THDC India Ltd. invites expressions of interest from consultants to strengthen the firm's ability to develop hydroelectric projects internationally. Responses are due January 31.

THDC received a US$648 million loan from the World Bank in 2011. The funds were to help achieve financial closure of THDC's 444-MW Vishnugad Pipalkoti hydroelectric project on India's Alaknanda River.

The developer now says it plans to use a portion of the World Bank funds to acquire consulting services to improve the firm's institutional capacity to expand its ability to develop hydropower projects across the globe.

In addition to Vishnugad Pipalkoti, THDC, formerly called Tehri Hydro Development Corp. Ltd., has developed the 2,400-MW Tehri hydropower complex, including the new 1,000-MW Tehri Pumped-Storage project. Among its other projects in India are 30-MW Dhukwan, 55-MW Malari Jelam, and 60-MW Jelam Tamak.

THDC seeks expressions of interest from consultants with experience in management consulting, hydropower utility operations, hydropower consulting in an international context, engineering, and the power sector.

Expressions of interest are due January 31, in person, by mail, or by e-mail, to the address below. For information, contact Additional General Manager (Contracts) N.
