El Salvador seeks stability analysis, rehab plans at three projects

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador 1/25/12 (PennWell) -- El Salvador utility Comision Ejecutiva Hidroelectrica del Rio Lempa (CEL) seeks bids for slope stability analysis and reinforcement proposals for three hydroelectric projects on El Salvador's Rio Lempa. Bids are due February 29.

CEL seeks bids for diagnosis of damage to seven slopes adjacent to the powerhouses, weirs, and levees of the 172.8-MW Cerron Grande, 180-MW Quince de Septiembre, and 99.4-MW Cinco de Noviembre hydroelectric projects and diagnosis of damage to the left filter gallery of Cerron Grande.

CEL awarded a contract in 2008 to SOCOIN Ingenieria y Construccion Industrial of Spain for studies in the Rio Lempa Basin including structural analysis of dams at the three projects, plus the fourth Rio Lempa project, 19.8-MW Guajoyo.

In addition to diagnosing damage to the three projects, the selected consultant is to perform stability analyses and to design reinforcement or protection for the structures.
