Egypt seeks audit of Zefta Barrage rehab feasibility study

GIZA, Egypt 1/30/12 (PennWell) -- Egypt's Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform an independent audit of a feasibility study on refurbishment of Zefta Barrage on the Damietta Branch of Egypt's Nile River. Responses are due February 20.

MWRI recruited consultants in 2010 to perform the feasibility study of rehabilitation or reconstruction of the dam, including an assessment of the technical and economic feasibility of future options for the century-old irrigation structure. The study of Zefta Barrage, 100 kilometers north of Cairo, includes evaluation of hydropower options, considered to be as much as 5 MW.

MWRI now seeks an external independent audit of study performance for the years ending in December 2011 and 2012. The audit is to ensure that funds granted to the project are used for intended purposes.

Expressions of interest and qualifications are due by 2 p.m. February 20 to the address below. Responses are to be labeled "External Independent Audit Assignment for Zefta Barrage Feasibility Study."
