U.S. to reissue call for gate hoist chain assemblies at 100-MW Old Hickory

NASHVILLE, Tenn., U.S. 11/30/11 (PennWell) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to reissue a call for bids to fabricate and deliver tainter gate hoist chain assemblies and lifting lug assemblies for the 100-MW Old Hickory hydroelectric project on the Cumberland River in Tennessee. A new solicitation is expected in December.

The Corps' Nashville District canceled a request for bids in August that was reserved for small businesses. The upcoming solicitation is to be full and open competition, the agency said.

Old Hickory, in Sumner County, Tenn., is among nine Corps hydropower plants on the Cumberland that a study found need as much as $470 million in repairs. The Corps awarded a contract to Bluegrass Contracting Corp. in September to perform bluff stabilization at Old Hickory.

A pre-solicitation notice for the tainter gate hoist chain assemblies may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering solicitation No. W912P512B0002 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.
