Solomon Islands seeks developer for 14-MW Tina River hydro

The government of the Solomon Islands invites pre-expressions of interest from firms to develop the 14-MW Tina River hydroelectric project on a build-own-operate-transfer basis. Responses are due November 21.

The government appointed the World Bank's International Finance Corp. to serve as transaction adviser for project preparation and tendering. The World Bank recruited hydropower engineers in September to support its teams preparing hydroelectric projects in the Solomons and in Papua New Guinea.

The Solomon Islands government plans to select a developer to design, finance, build, own, and operate the project on the Tina River on Guadalcanal in the Solomons. A detailed feasibility study funded by the European Investment Bank is being carried out by Entura with completion expected in December.

The government invites pre-expressions of interest from developers with experience developing hydro projects of less than 50 MW. Those who file are to receive a formal expression of interest call, bidding documents, and other information when available.

Pre-expressions of interest, in English, are due to the addresses below by mail or e-mail by November 21. For information, contact:
o Tina River Hydropower Development Project, Project Management Office, Attn.: Mark France, c/o P.O. Box G37, Honiara, Solomon Islands; (677) 25133; E-mail:;
o International Finance Corp., Attn.: Shobana Venkataraman, Jeetendra Marcelline, Eric Gao, 14F, One Pacific Place, 88 Queensway Admiralty, Hong Kong; E-mail:,,
