Mozambique to seek completion of Corumana Dam

Mozambique plans to take bids for completion of Corumana Dam as part of its National Water Resources Development Project.

Mozambique's National Directorate of Water recruited consultants in 2008 for the program, which includes completion of Corumana Dam, construction of three small dams, and preparation of future investments in Pavua Dam on the Pungue River and the Moamba Major Dam, which is expected to include a hydro project, on the Incomati River.

The government has applied for a US$70 million credit from the World Bank's International Development Association for the water resources program. It plans to take bids for several components of the program including water resources management support, civil and hydro-mechanical works of Corumana Dam, environmental and social safeguards for Corumana, and consultant work for design, bid preparation, and construction supervision for Corumana.

Work on Corumana Dam is to include increasing the height of the dam to 117 meters from 110 meters, installing crest spillway gates, and a fuse plug.

Specific contracts are to be offered for bidding under World Bank procedures. Suppliers and contractors are to be pre-qualified for Corumana Dam civil and hydro-mechanical works.

Prospective bidders seeking to be included on a mailing list for invitations to bid are invited to contact the address below.
