Bosnia seeks rehabilitation of 161-MW Rama Dam

Bosnia utility Elektroprivreda Hrvatske Zajednice Herceg-Bosne seeks bids for rehabilitation of the upstream concrete facing of 161-MW Rama Dam in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bids are due November 8.

The European Investment Bank approved a 103 million euro (US$139.7 million) loan to Bosnia and Herzegovina for rehabilitation of hydroelectric plants and electricity distribution systems. The work is part of the Energy Community of Southeast Europe APL 3-BiH project. Consultants were recruited under the program in 2007 to assist in dam safety and rehabilitation work at several hydroelectric projects including Rama.

In 2009, Bosnia Finance Minister Dragan Vrankic said the Balkan country's two autonomous regions, the Muslim-Croat federation and the Serb Republic, would invest 4 million euros (US$5.4 million) by 2013 in the overhaul of the Rama project and the Trebisnjica River hydro plants, 168-MW Trebinje 1 and 8-MW Trebinje 2.

Elektroprivreda currently seeks bids for rehabilitation for waterproofing of the upstream face of Rama Dam. A contract is expected to be awarded in January 2012 for work requiring nine months.
