U.S. boundary commission to seek penstock plug for 132-MW Amistad

The U.S. Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission plans to seek bids for concrete plugging of a penstock gate at 132-MW Amistad Dam at Del Rio, Texas.

A mandatory site visit is scheduled July 26. The commission expects to issue a solicitation about July 18 with bids due about Aug. 18.

The commission, which owns and operates hydroelectric projects along the U.S.-Mexico border including Amistad, took bids in 2009 for engineering services for hydro and water projects. (HydroWorld 3/9/09)

The agency seeks a woman-owned small business to plug Penstock Gate 4, which was designed as an irrigation water passage during construction of the dam and is no longer required. The work is expected to cost between $300,000 and $500,000.

A pre-solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. IBM11B0003 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

The mandatory site visit is set for 10 a.m., Mountain time, July 26 at the Amistad Dam field office. Bids are expected to be due Aug. 18.
