Ecuador seeks consultants to study 50.1-MW Baeza

Ecuador's investment institute invites expressions of interest from consultants to study and design the 50.1-MW Baeza hydroelectric project on Ecuador's Quijos River. Responses are due July 15.

Ecuador's Instituto Nacional de Preinversion (INP) seeks consultants to complement feasibility studies and definitive design of the project. In 2009, a delegation from Iran pursued investment in the 100-MW Quijos-Baeza project, one of nine hydro projects that Ecuador's energy and hydrocarbon investment fund has committed to finance.

The Baeza project is to have a design flow of 25 cubic meters per second, a head of 238 meters, a 7,484-meter power tunnel, a 58-meter-high surge shaft, a 912-meter penstock, and a powerhouse containing three 16.7-MW Francis turbines.

INP currently seeks consultants to review and validate existing feasibility studies and definitive design of Baeza. The consultant is to complement field studies with a new program of field research to complement topographic and geological surveying. Based on that work, the consultant is to update designs of the project works.

The work is expected to require 10 months with a budget of US$1.76 million.

Expressions of interest, and qualifications, are due by 5:30 p.m. July 15. INP plans to invite short-listed firms to submit proposals.
