Costa Rica seeks equipment to expand 105.7-MW Cachi

National utility Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) seeks bids to supply electro-mechanical equipment to expand the 105.7-MW Cachi hydroelectric project in Costa Rica. Bids are due July 26.

The first stage of the Cachi project began operation in 1966 on the Revantazon River. ICE took bids in May to equip the 305.5-MW Reventazon project, also on the Reventazon.

Cachi currently features two 34.79-MW units and a 36.11-MW unit. With a budget of US$24 million, ICE seeks bids to supply a 40-MW turbine-generator for a Unit 4.

The contract is to include all necessary equipment for the installation, which is to be performed by ICE under the contractor's supervision. ICE also plans to build a new tunnel for Units 3 and 4, manufacture and install a new penstock, and design and build an annex building for Unit 4.

Tender documents, No. 2011LI-000008-PROV, may be obtained from the ICE Internet site, https://apps.grupoice.com/PEL/listarAdquisiciones.do, under https://apps.grupoice.com/PEL/docsAdq/LPU20110008CAR-01.zip.
