U.S. seeks excitation, switchgear at 27.9-MW Elephant Butte

The Bureau of Reclamation has extended the deadline for bids to replace excitation systems at the 27.945-MW Elephant Butte hydroelectric project on the Rio Grande in Sierra County, N.M. Bids now are due July 11.

Reclamation previously called for bids by June 30. Elephant Butte, formerly called Engle Dam, has been operating since 1940 as part of Reclamation's Rio Grande Project.

Reclamation seeks bids to furnish and install new fully static excitation equipment for the three units in the power plant including fused disconnect switches, power potential transformers, circuit breakers, SCR bridges, digital voltage regulators and limiters, instrumentation, protection, and control components. The work is valued at between $1 million and $5 million.

Reclamation to seek unit and station switchgear for Elephant Butte

Reclamation also plans to seek bids to replace unit and station service switchgear at Elephant Butte. A solicitation is expected to be issued in July.

The agency plans to seek bids to furnish and install new 15-kilovolt unit switchgear, 4.76-kV station service switchgear, 5-kV insulated power cables, 600-kV insulated cables, and electrical conduits. Work also includes removal and disposal of existing equipment and core drilling in concrete for new conduits.
