Santo Antonio do Jari hydro project installation license issued in Brazil

Brazil's environmental regulator, Ibama, has issued the installation license for the 373-MW Santo Antonio do Jari hydropower project, wire services reported.

Consortium ECE Participacoes is behind the hydroelectric power project, which will be built on the Jari River on the border of states Amapa and Para.

The group was one of several hydropower developers that picked up 30-year contracts last year in an energy auction for delivery starting 2015, Business News Americas reported.

Santo Antonio do Jari is part of the government's growth acceleration plan, PAC.

In other news, Brazilian state-run utility holding group Eletrobras believes Peru's 1,500-MW Inambari hydropower project is still viable, a company spokesperson told wire services.

Earlier this week, Peru's energy and mines ministry issued a resolution that terminated the temporary concession granted for the Inambari hydro project to Empresa de Generacion Electrica Amazonas Sur (Egasur), comprised of Eletrobras, Eletrobras Furnas and OAS, Business News Americas reported.
