RusHydro signs hydropower development agreements with Argentina, India firms

Russia's JSC RusHydro has signed a memorandum of understanding with an Argentina firm for further development of hydropower in the country. RusHydro signed a similar MOU with an India-based firm.

In accordance with the memorandum signed with Argentina's Energia Argentina S. A., the parties will seek opportunities for implementation of joint projects in hydropower and alternative renewable sources. They also will cooperate in expertise exchange in energy efficiency, design, construction, maintenance and modernization of hydropower facilities, a press release states.

One of the directions of cooperation will be development of joint projects in renewable energy sources, including tidal energy. In the near-term, the companies will consider the possibility of participating in joint projects on development, design and construction of hydropower plants in Argentina. In addition, the parties agreed to work out opportunities for cross-border electricity sales with neighboring countries.

RusHydro also recently signed a deal with the the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation of India.

The companies will consider cooperation opportunities in hydropower engineering and renewable energy sources development, as well as in consulting and management services. They also agreed to jointly study the possibilities of implementing joint turnkey projects in other countries.

In other news, RusHydro and France's Alstom have signed a deal to build a 500 million euro (US$677 million) hydro turbine plant in the republic of Bashkortostan.
