Peru extends auction deadline for renewables including hydropower

Peru's supervising agency for investment in energy and mining has extended the deadlines for registration and bidding to supply electricity from renewable energy sources including small hydropower. Registration now is due by June 8, with bids due July 15.

In its second solicitation for renewables, Organismo Supervisor de la Inversion en Energia y Mineria (OSINERGMIN) originally called for registration by May 31, with bids due June 13. Business News Americas reported that seven hydropower and one biomass plant are in operation as a result of OSINERGMIN's first renewables auction in December 2009.

OSINERGMIN currently seeks 681 gigawatt-hours from hydroelectric projects of no more than 20 MW each and 1,300 GWh from tidal, biomass, wind, solar, and geothermal projects of similar size.

Bidding information is available on the OSINERGMIN Internet site,, under Data Room de Subasta de Energias Renovables. Bidders now must register on the Internet site by June 8. Tender documents may be obtained from the address below for US$1,000, deposited in the Banco de Credito del Peru, OSINERGMIN Foreign Currency Account No. 193-1522184-1-05.

Bids now are due July 15. Bidders are to be announced July 26, followed by an award August 23.
