Belgium utility seeks replacement units for 22-MW Lixhe

Belgium utility SPE N.V. seeks bids to supply replacement turbine-generators for the 22-MW Lixhe hydroelectric project on the Meuse River in southern Belgium. Bids are due June 5.

SPE invited expressions of interest in April for two solicitations to upgrade hydropower production units on the Meuse. The utility operates seven low-head hydroelectric projects totaling 65 MW. Six are on the Meuse, Lixhe, Ivoz-Ramet, Monsin, Ampsin-Neuville, Andenne, Lixhe, and Grand-Malades. The seventh, Floriffoux, is on the Sambre River.

SPE said Lixhe, which was built in 1980, requires rehabilitation. It has four horizontal-axis Straflo turbine-generators with 3.55-meter-diameter axial propeller runners. Performance is 5.5 MWe per unit under maximum gross head of 7.8 meters and flow of 85 cms.

The utility seeks replacement of two units, with an option to replace the other two, within the existing civil works to be modified "in a reasonable way." Scope is to include design, supply, installation, and commissioning with anchoring pieces, governor, generator with excitation cabinet and cooling, lube oil system common or separate for turbine and generator, instrumentation, and control cabinet.

Documents may be obtained from the address below until noon May 26. Bids, in English or French, are due by noon June 5 to the address below.
