Peru opens renewables auction including hydropower

Peru's supervising agency for investment in energy and mining has opened its second solicitation for electricity from renewable energy sources including small hydropower. An invitation for bids is to be issued April 28.

Organismo Supervisor de la Inversion en Energia y Mineria (OSINERGMIN) held its first renewables auction in December 2009. Business News Americas reported by February 2011 that seven hydropower and one biomass plant were in operation as a result of that sale.

OSINERGMIN currently seeks 681 gigawatt-hours from hydroelectric projects of no more than 20 MW each and 1,300 GWh from tidal, biomass, wind, solar, and geothermal projects of similar size.

Bidding information is to be available on the OSINERGMIN Internet site, www.osinerg.gob.pe, under Data Room de Subasta de Energias Renovables. Bidders are to register on the Internet site, which is to publish the date and place of sale of documents before April 28.

For information, contact Riquel Mitma, Organismo Supervisor de la Inversion en Energia y Mineria (OSINERGMIN), Av. Canada 1460, San Borja, Lima, Peru; (51) 1-2240487; Fax: (51) 1-2240491; g.subastarer@osinerg.gob.pe; Internet: www2.osinerg.gob.pe.
