FERC commissioner to speak at National Hydropower Association conference

The National Hydropower Association has announced that Commissioner John R. Norris of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will be a special keynote guest speaker at the upcoming 2011 National Hydropower Association Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.

Norris was nominated by President Barack Obama to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and confirmed by the U.S. Senate for a term expiring in June 2012.

Norris, a lawyer, has years of experience in energy policy and regulatory affairs. He most recently served as chief of staff to Secretary Tom Vilsack of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Prior to joining the USDA, he served as chairman of the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) from 2005 to 2009. During his tenure as IUB chairman, Norris served on the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Electricity Committee and was co-chair of the 2009 National Electricity Delivery Forum.

A wide range of activities, meetings and sessions are planned for the NHA conference, covering many aspects of the hydropower industry. Subjects range from legislative and regulatory issues to dam safety and security, small hydro, pumped-storage hydro and an array of other topics.

The three-day event will bring together hydro industry leaders, state and federal regulatory officials and key legislative staff.
