250-MW Willow Springs Texas Wind Farm is Operational

Lincoln Clean Energy announced Wednesday that its 250-MW Willow Springs wind farm has begun commercial operations in Haskell County, Texas.

Willow Springs is expected to generate about 1 million MWh of renewable energy annually. Combined with the recently commissioned Amazon Wind Farm Texas, Lincoln Clean Energy (LCE) now has brought 503 MW of wind power online this year.

The combined wind energy from the farms is enough to power approximately 180,000 homes per year.

“I am pleased to reach another important milestone with the safe, on time, and on budget delivery of the Willow Springs project,” said Declan Flanagan, CEO of LCE. “Following the success of this latest project we are ahead of schedule in making $250 million in project equity investments, a target we announced last year on the closing of our partnership with I Squared Capital”

Last month, Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos broke a bottle of wine atop a massive turbine to christen the 253-MW Amazon Wind Farm Texas west of Abilene. That project has more than 100 turbines providing wind power for Amazon’s Texas operations.

Lincoln Clean Energy has developed more than 1,500 MW of renewable power projects in California, New Jersey and Texas, including wind and solar. It is part of I Squared Capital’s portfolio.

Financing for the $330 million Willow Springs project was completed earlier this year. GE Renewable Energy supplied 100 of its 2.5-116 turbines and operations are supported by a 20-year extended full-service agreement with GE.
