Fluor Corp. signed a memorandum of understanding with Clean Energy Future to provide development support for the Trumbull and Oregon Energy Centers natural gas, combined-cycle stations in Ohio.

As part of the agreement, Fluor will provide initial permitting and development support services for the projects. After the projects have received all permits and regulatory and financial approvals, Fluor will provide engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services for both of the power plants.

“We are honored to be selected by Clean Energy Future for this new natural gas development,” said Chris Tye, president of Fluor’s Power business line. “Fluor is a leader in the gas-fueled business demonstrated by the design and build of nearly 50,000 megawatts of gas-fueled power stations over the past 20 years.”

Fluor will support permitting and project development over the next year with construction scheduled to begin in early 2018. The projects are currently planned to begin commercial operations in 2020.

“Clean Energy Future is pleased to have such a talented international engineering-construction firm leading the way for our next two large scale combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) projects in Ohio,” said Bill Siderewicz, P.E., president of Clean Energy Future, LLC. “These two new facilities will represent the fourth and fifth such CCGT projects developed by Clean Energy Future in Ohio, and the sixth and seventh in the PJM interconnection region. Fluor will be working in partnership with our other team members including Siemens Energy, Siemens Financial Services and BNP Paribas.”

The highly efficient natural gas facilities will use Siemens advanced technology and will be among the most energy efficient generating plants in the region. The 940 MW Trumbull Energy Center and 955 MW Oregon Energy Center will be located in the Ohio towns of Lordstown and Oregon, respectively. These projects will be constructed by members of the local building trades.
