West Coast utilities Pacific Gas and Electric Co. and Southern California Edison were lauded by the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for spending half a billion dollars or more last year with Hispanic-owned businesses.
In fact, PG&E and SEC were among the top 10 companies in any sector honored for their Hispanic-related spending in 2015. Four companies—AT&T, Avis Budget Group, Ford and Toyota—spent more than $1 billion annually on diverse companies.
PG&E was part of a group spending $500 million to $1 billion that included Comcast, Enterprise Holdings, GM, SCE and the U.S. Postal Service.
“We applaud our 2016 Million Dollar honorees as champions and trailblazers in supplier diversity,” USHCC President and CEO Javier Palomarez said in a statement. “These industry leaders have proven that they are committed to inclusion by spending resources to ensure that their suppliers reflect the faces of their customers, employees, and shareholders. Opportunities have increased across the country as a result of our honorees’ procurement efforts, creating jobs and fostering economic development in the communities where they are needed most. The USHCC is thrilled to celebrate these companies as part of our Million Dollar Club.”
PG&E received the Million Dollar Club recognition during the USHCC’s national convention in Miami earlier this month. The San Francisco-based utility spent a company record $602.4 million with Hispanic-owned businesses.

The Million Dollar Club was established to recognize corporations that actively demonstrate a commitment to minority and women-owned enterprises through their work with minority suppliers. The 2016 honorees invested a minimum of $25 million to more than $1 billion in Hispanic-owned businesses.

In the last seven years, PG&E’s total spend with Hispanic-owned businesses has increased 74 percent ($602,412,037 in 2015 from $256,408,228 in 2010). In that same period, spend with Hispanic male-owned enterprises has gone up 70 percent ($459,323,606 from $189,869,798) and Hispanic female-owned enterprises spend has seen an 87 percent rise ($143,088,431 from $66,538,430).
PG&E delivers energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. SCE provides power to about 14 million customers in the southern portion of the state.
